Columbia River Knife & Tool (CRKT)

Columbia River Knife & Tool (CRKT)

We stopped by the CRKT booth to see if my daily carry knife (S-2) was still being produced, but was sadly disappointed.   However we were shown a very interesting folder by Nirk Tighe where the blade is released by depressing the rear of the frame With it’s skeletonized frame and the blued mechanism it was quite eye catching When folded, the pocket clip blends nicely with the structure of the frame cuts I was quite taken with it, … Read entire article »

SIGs

SIGs

The big news this year was the SIG 224, which is basically a cut down 229 You can see that they tried to make it as short as possible will still providing as much grip (along the back strap) as possible by recessing the magazine base plate into the frame You can see the longer style external extractor. As well as the details on this example of the checkered take down lever, slide lock and magazine release button … Read entire article »

Beretta Nano Chassis and Rock River Widebody

Beretta Nano Chassis and Rock River Widebody

First chance to handle the Beretta Nano.  It isn’t especially new, but it was interesting as it is following in the footsteps on the Sig 250 in that the metal chassis indies the polymer frame is the serialized part…note the white metal insert at the top of the left grip panel.  This means that they will be offering different exterior pieces to change it from a full sized to a compact to a sub-compact pistol…possibility … Read entire article »

S&W M&P .22

S&W M&P .22

Here is a comparison in size between the M&P9 and the M&P22.  You note that the M&P22 only comes equipped with a thumb safety, also that the M&P22 isn’t a dedicated upper assembly atop the M&P9 lower, but rather a restyled Walther P22 Comparing them side by side shows that they are very close.  The backstraps on the M&P22 is not interchangeable, but rather fixed with the profile being that of the medium factory insert. On a … Read entire article »

Springfield Armory XDm 3.3

Springfield Armory XDm 3.3

Here it is in all it’s glory, the long awaited Springfield Armory XDm 3.3 chambered in .45ACP.   As it’s name implies, it’s barrel is 3.3″ long and the front of the slide is beveled back from the muzzle. The big news of course is that it is a single stack pistol, so it is much thinner than the regular XDm I’m looking forward to testing this along with one of the XDm Competition 5.25 models available … Read entire article »

Tang’s SHOT Show Notes – Day 1

Tang’s SHOT Show Notes – Day 1

Kel Tec The big news at Kel Tec was that the long awaited KSG shotgun started shipping the week before X-mass. Had a chance to see the PMR-30 and the thing that struck me was the how small it really was.  I took a quick picture of one with a red dot.   Accuracy International Got to look at their AX chassis.  The free standing pistol grip  really had a different look. The back of the grip is covered in rubber … Read entire article »

Roth Concept Innovations

Roth Concept Innovations

Two years ago, Roth Concept Innovations made quite a splash in the 3-gun community with the introduction of the XRail autoindexing shotshell loader. 3-Gun competitors, cops, and folks who keep shotguns for home defense often install extended magazine tubes. The problem with extended magazine tubes, is that the magazine cap threads aren’t very strong. Whacking your 8-round extension tube on a doorframe or car trunk can bend or break the threads, and render your shotgun useless … Read entire article »

Wheaton Arms .22

Wheaton Arms .22

Wheaton Arms is the brainchild of Robbie Wheaton, an experienced gunsmith and three-gun competitor.  The Wheaton Arms Sentinel ISR (Interdiction of Squirrels Rifle?) is a five-pound Ruger 10-22 with a match barrel, and an integral mono-core sound suppressor installed.  The suppressor can be removed for maintenance,  and the rifle comes with a 3-1/2# trigger pull. Derek got on the list to have one of these built and delivered, so expect a detailed review in a couple of months. … Read entire article »
